The accident occurred shortly after 12 P.M. on Illinois Route 1, a straight stretch of road, as Keown was returning from Robinson, Illinois.

He was driving a Tesla, and authorities are investigating whether the car was in self-driving mode at the time.

Keown’s family confirmed his passing on social media, while the injured passenger was taken to an Evansville hospital by ambulance due to weather preventing an airlift.
