John was a proud dad to four children. He shared three children with his first wife, Nancy Morgan (married in 1977 and divorced in 1996): sons Jason and Tyler and daughter Carly.
At 54, the Emmy and Golden Globe-winning actor, John, suddenly passed away on Sept 11, 2003, after suffering an aortic dissection.
Ritter fell ill while filming an episode of ”8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter” on September 11, 2003, and suffered from chest pain, nausea, and vomiting.
In 2004, shortly after his d*ath, Ritter was nominated posthumously for an Emmy for his role in ”8 Simple Rules for Dating My Teenage Daughter.”

Weeks after John’s death, his wife, Amy Yasbeck, founded The John Ritter Foundation for Aortic Health with a focused and urgent purpose to prevent unnecessary suffering caused by aortic dissection.
