Donald Glover’s Health Battle: Coping with Depression and Feeling Like an Imposter

Donald aka Childish Gambino has been preparing himself for 2024 the "New World Tour'' where he will be performing the music from his new album ''Atavista.''

As of this writing, Donald Glover is absolutely fine and doing great in all of his endeavors.

In fact, Donald, aka Childish Gambino and McDJ, has been preparing himself for 2024’s “New World Tour, ” which will take place late this summer and fall.

During this tour, he will perform the music from his new album, “Atavista.”

He has also released the audio for “To Be Hunted” on his YouTube Channel, Donald Glover.

However, back in 2006, he was struggling with imposter syndrome while landing his first writing job, and in 2013, he was going through sui*idal thoughts after a breakup.

Donald Glover has been very open about his struggle with imposter syndrome when he landed first time for writing job in 2006 on the NBC comedy “30 Rock.”

When the show’s star and creator, Tina Fey, told him he was a diversity hire, her statement instigated his imposter syndrome.

Even after winning the spot, he often felt out of place while he was on the show. He said,

“It definitely didn’t feel like I was supposed to be there. I used to have stress dreams every night where I was doing cartwheels on the top of a New York skyscraper with the other writers watching me.”

The multi-talented Donald is a writer, actor, musician, comedian, producer, and director who was raised in Stone Mountain, Georgia and was exposed to racism from a very young age.

The 40-year-old Glover, in an interview with Vice, said that his background helped shape his unique worldview.

He further said,

“I felt free of shame around my own battles with mental illness that I don’t believe I inherited, but rather, I was socialized into because of dealing with anti-black racism for my entire life. I do not believe you see as many black people die and be brutalized as I have and not develop anxiety,” he said. “I don’t think you can live with the level of poverty, housing, and food insecurity that I have and not develop clinical depression… I think my development of these conditions are [sic] proof that I am alive and not just some numb vehicle for domination that I was socialized to be.”

In January 2013, Glover opened up about his depression and said,

“I was just super depressed. I mean, I tried to kill myself. I was really f***ed up after that because I had this girl that I thought I was going to marry and we broke up. I didn’t feel like I knew what I was doing. I wasn’t living up to my standard; I was living up to other people’s standards, and I just said ‘I don’t see the point.”
