Commencement Of Stand-Up Journey

Stand-up veteran Bobby Kelton graduated from Syracuse University in Syracuse, NewYork, with a degree in Journalism. Now, Bobby is in his sixth decade as a stand-up comic.

Bobby has made a niche as a highly regarded sports humorist and has been featured on shows such as NBC’s “Sportsworld” and ESPN’s “Up Close.”

On ”The Carson Podcast” posted on August 25, 2016, by Mark Malkoff, Florida-based Bobby shared that in 1984, during his standup gig in Denver, he encountered a housewife who turned out to be Roseanne Barr.

Barr asked him to let her five minutes do a standup comedy before him, which he agreed to.

At that time, there were no prominent female standup comedians; noticing Barr’s comedic potential, Bobby suggested she must come to LA.

For a week, while having coffee with Barr, Bobby suggested she contact a few people, offered her tips, and critiqued her comedy lines. Surprisingly, after 4-5 months, Barr showed up in LA.

Barr appeared in “The Comedy Store” and first appeared on “The Tonight Show Starring Johnny Carson” in 1985. Her comedic abilities landed her on the sitcom, and she became an overnight star.
