Pwllheli, Wales: Marj Hogarth might keep a relatively private life, but her husband, Keith Brymer Jones, has given a glimpse into their latest bold undertaking.

Brymer Jones, best known as the passionate expert judge on BBC’s The Great Pottery Thrown Down, and his wife are embarking on an ambitious renovation project that has been featured on Channel 4.

The couple has purchased a 160-year-old derelict chapel called Capel Salem in Pwllheli, Wales.

They envision transforming this 8,500-square-foot space into a house for themselves and Keith’s new pottery studio.

One of the halls will become their residence, while the other will be home to Brymer Jones’ kiln and an apprenticeship program to train aspiring potters from the local community.

Marje and I are incredibly excited about coming up to Pwllheli to live there,” Brymer told BBC Radio Wales.

I’m starting an apprenticeship scheme for people in the local area to have a go and possibly a career in pottery.”

The renovation is still in the early stages, with the couple already tackling major issues like removing toxic pigeon waste and dry rot.

Through his Instagram, Brymer Jones timely updates his viewers about their progress on the Channel 4 series.

While Marj Hogarth tends to stay out of the spotlight, her husband occasionally shares glimpses of their life together on Instagram.

The potter, who has a son named Ned from his previous marriage, seems to relish his unconventional career path—something he encourages Ned to pursue, too.

Don’t be like me and do a job just for the money. Do something you enjoy,” he advises his son.

Being a potter is pretty unorthodox, I’m proud of that.

As Hogarth and Brymer Jones prepare for this exciting new chapter in Wales, they are committed to immersing themselves fully in the local culture—even learning to speak Welsh.

With 80% of Pwllhwli residents speaking the language, Brymer Jones says,

I kind of like that” challenge.
