Key Takeaways

  • Nicole’s two young children with O.J. Simpson – Sydney and Justin, aged 8 and 5 – were suddenly without their mother.
  • For Dominique, losing her niece and nephew added to her grief over her sister’s death at far too young an age.

On the night of June 12, 1994, Dominique Brown’s world was shattered when her younger sister, Nicole Bown Simpson, was brutally murdered at just 35 years old in Brentwood, Los Angeles.

Dominique, who was born on October 22, 1994, was only 29 years old at the time.

The tragedy was compounded by the fact that Nicole’s two young children with O.J. Simpson – Sydney and Justin, aged 8 and 5 – were suddenly without their mother.

In the chaos that followed, Dominique took on a protective role for her niece and nephew, trying to shield them from the intense media speculation surrounding the case.

It happened Christmas morning. I didn’t think my heart could take it,” Dominique, now 59, emotionally recalls in the upcoming Lifetime docuseries “The Life & Murder of Nicole Brown Simpson.

She is referring to 1996, when the Brown family lost custody of Sydney and Justin to their father, O.J. Simpson, after a bitter legal battle.

For Dominique, that loss added to her grief over her sister’s death at far too young an age.

While her older sister Denise was very close with Nicole growing up, Dominique shared a special bond with her – the two were alike in personality and spirit, according to their own admissions.

The sisters grew up in Germany before the family moved to the United States, with fond childhood memories of Denise, Nicole, and Dominique spending time together at the beach.

Those sisterly times were cut tragically short when Nicole was killed at age 35.

In the nearly 30 years since, Dominique has lived a relatively private life, in contrast to her more public siblings.

The Lifetime docuseries gives her a platform to remind the world about Nicole’s life that was lost and to finally learn about the struggles faced by her now grown niece and nephew, Sydney, 37, and Justin, 35.

It’s been 30 years,” Dominique says somberly in the trailer. “Maybe it’s time to rekindle the flame of Nicole.
