After six successful years as a news anchor for CBS Philly (CBS3, KYW-TV), Jessica Kartalija announced her departure from the station in early September 2024.

The news came as a surprise to many, with Kartalija offering no immediate explanation for her exit, fueling speculation about whether she was fired or if her contract simply expired.

Since joining CBS Philadelphia in 2018, Kartalija had been a familiar face, anchoring the 5, 6, and 11 p.m. news broadcasts.

However, her final broadcast aired in early September 2024. She took to Facebook on Sunday, September 8, 2024, sharing a heartfelt post alongside a picture with her son, Drew.

In the post, she thanked viewers for their support but left the reasons for her departure undisclosed, teasing that she would reveal more details in due time.

The post prompted an outpouring of support from her fans.

Jessica Kartalija’s career in journalism has been marked by dedication and impressive achievements.

After graduating from Torrey Pines High School in 1997, she landed a position as a Marketing Communications Specialist at ESPN X Games.

She later pursued a Bachelor of Arts in Journalism and Spanish from Penn State University, graduating in 2001.

Her first on-air role came as a news anchor and reporter at KYMA-TV from 2001 to 2003, followed by a stint at KOB-TV, where she worked as a Noon Anchor from 2003 to 2006.

Kartalija then made her mark in Baltimore, where she spent over a decade anchoring the news at WJZ-TV/CBS Baltimore from 2006 to 2018.

In addition to her on-air work, Kartalija earned a Master of Arts in Marketing Communications and Media Studies from Johns Hopkins University in 2016.

During this time, she also taught public speaking as an adjunct professor at Stevenson University.

More recently, since 2023, she has been sharing her expertise as a part-time adjunct professor at Villanova University, specializing in social media journalism and public speaking.

During her time at CBS Philly, Kartalija was recognized for her work with several accolades, including the Broadcaster of the Year award from the Pennsylvania Association of Broadcasters in April 2024.
