The Biracial Identity of Terry Crews’ Wife, Rebecca King-Crews

Embracing her dual ethnic identity

Key Takeaways

  • Rebecca King-Crews was born to her father, Samuel Dean King, a musician, and her mother, Anna Mae Parks, a financial representative.
  • Rebecca had received some criticism about being African-American, as fans said she was ‘too white.’
  • Rebecca’s husband, Terry Crews, has set the record straight for people questioning her racial identity.

Rebecca King-Crews was born to interracial couple Anna King and Samuel King at a time when interracial marriage was still not legal in every state.

Being born to an interracial couple, Rebecca King-Crews identifies as a biracial woman.

Rebecca’s father, Samuel Dean King, was a white man working as an engineer at US Steel and a part-time musician.

Although he was a white man, Samuel was in the Black Panthers Organization in the late 60s and early 70s, hinting at strong ties to the African-American community and personal beliefs against police brutality against minorities.

Unfortunately, Samuel passed away when Rebecca was just six.

So, Rebecca was mainly raised by her mother, an African-American woman who worked as a financial representative.

Although she was born in Benton Harbor, Michigan, she spent most of her early childhood in Gary, Indiana, where there is a primarily African-American community.

Although born to an African-American mother and raised in a primarily African-American community, her racial identity is questioned.

According to some, she ‘looks too white‘ to be an African-American woman.

However, these claims are unjustified as one’s ethnic background can not be based solely on appearance.

While Rebecca has received criticism about being African-American, her husband, Terry Crews, has had enough of it.

On an appearance on ‘Club Shay Shay,’ Shannon Sharpe asked him,

“Your wife’s color is always something that’s brought up… for the record, she’s Black, correct?’

Terry Crews immediately responded with affirmation.

She’s Black, yes. Black momma, white daddy.

Furthermore, Crews believes that his wife’s ‘Blackness‘ is obvious as she was raised by an African-American mother in Gary, Indiana.

He added,

My wife was Miss Gary, Indiana, in 1984. And Gary, Indiana, is like Flint. There aren’t anything but Black people. And she was raised in Black culture, so it wasn’t like she was raised on the outskirts.

Terry Crews also revealed that his wife’s ethnicity is only in question when outside of Gary, Indiana.

He stated he had to deal with people’s thinking,

“As a professional athlete, he went and got himself a white wife.”

However, he said that Rebecca had never thought about their relationship that way.

In Case You Didn’t Know

  • Rebecca King-Crews and Terry Crews married each other in 1989.
